SYTYCD13 Sub-Title & Age Eligibility

Although we have only ever reported about American Idol, a reliable source recently provided us with a few details about the upcoming season of its sister show, So Yo You Think You Can Dance, that we decided to share anyways.  While season 13 has still not quite yet been officially announced, it has become an open secret among its fans that it will be a junior edition.  Without further ado...

The thirteenth season will adopt the sub-title, "The Next Generation", from the junior edition of the Dutch franchise.  However, the age eligibility range will be 9-13 *, rather than 9-16, like that of the Dutch version.

AI14 Hollywood Week Twist

Countdown: 7 Days

Attention Idolsphere... Halloween Week Hollywood Week is just over a dozen days away!  It is currently scheduled for Saturday, October 25th - Friday, October 31st.  This is definitely the earliest that it has been held in years.  But there's a new twist, of course!  This season, contestants must choose a single song, record a video of themselves singing it, and submit it to producers ahead of time for casting purposes, presumably for the judges to assess and review.  It is expected that select contestants will be eliminated en mass upon arrival in California, in a similar manner to last season's controversial "Hollywood Or Home" round.  In the meantime, we are chatting with our reliable sources and steadily compiling information.  Our contestant listing is a constant work-in-progress and should be launched soon (sometime within the next week or so).  Our first three years were not too shabby, if we do say so ourselves.  It's almost that time of the year again!  Here's to another season of successful spoiling!

TIP Exclusive: American Idol Season 14 Renewal

Despite its rapidly declining ratings, American Idol is NOT being cancelled following the current season.  FOX is renewing the series for a fourteenth season.  Repeat: American Idol XIV will premiere in the first quarter of 2015.  However, our sources promise a "more compact version of Idol as it enters its golden years."  Apparently, experts believe that the key to stabilization is decreasing the time commitment expected of viewers.  "At this point, 'less is more' is where its headed."  Plans are already in order to scale back season 14 by about a month as well as consolidate the show into one-night-per-week, rather than the traditional two-night format.

AI12 Coronation Single Lyrics

Candice Glover - "I Am Beautiful"

You say I sound silly when I laugh real loud
Talk about my day and you tune me out
You keep telling me lies to make things worse
But I don't hear you
'Cause I'm listening to his words
And he says I am beautiful
And when I fall
It don't matter that I'm not perfect
I am beautiful
I'm not alone
And in his eyes I'm so worth it
I'm worth every tear
And every scar
And even when you say I'm not
He says I'm beautiful
You say I'll never be good enough
Knock me down
Won't help me up
And you always say the right thing to make hurt
But I don't hear you
'Cause I'm listening to his words
And he says I am beautiful
And when I fall
It don't matter that I'm not perfect
I am beautiful
I'm not alone
And in his eyes I'm so worth it
I'm worth every tear
And every scar
And even when you say I'm not
He says I'm beautiful
And I deserve better things
He says he understands
I got to do whats right for me
And he says I am beautiful
And when I fall
It don't matter that I'm not perfect
I am beautiful
I'm not alone
And in his eyes I'm so worth it
I'm worth every tear
And every scar
And even when you say I'm not
He says I'm beautiful
He says
He says
I'm beautiful
And I'm worth every tear
And every scar
And even when you say I'm not
He says I'm beautiful

Kree Harrison - "All Cried Out"

They say when the last year comes
You can tell by the way it falls
It's like seeing everything for the first time again
It's not like the pain is gone
Just hurts a little bit less
You know you're going to cross that line
Who knows what you're going to find
It's only a matter of time in the end
I'm all cried out
Ready to run like a river
But it's empty now
And the only consolation is that
I can lie here in this bed
And put these memories to rest somehow
'Cause I'm all cried out
I never knew I had the strength
'Til I finally hit the ground
Now I have to make a choice to get up
Or stay down
For crying out loud
I'm all cried out
Ready to run like a river
But it's empty now
And the only consolation is that
I can lie here in this bed
Ad put these memories to rest somehow
'Cause I'm all cried out
And the only consolation is that
I can lie here in this bed
Ad put these memories to rest somehow
'Cause I'm all cried out
I'm all cried out

AI12 Surprise Reveal - Winner's Launch: Striking While The Iron Is Hot

Since the finals began, the contestants have been secretly writing/co-writing and recording original songs in preparation for their album on a nearly daily basis (should they win or still receive a recording contract).  Sometime near the end of the season, original songs will be performed by the then-remaining finalists.  It is expected that the winner's coronation single will be a song that she had a hand in writing.  Unlike ever before, the winner's debut album will be released soon after the finale, rather than many months later, to better capitalize on the potential of the television exposure and winning momentum.  The winner will support their album by performing their own songs on the summer tour.

AI12 Las Vegas Round Performance Options

For the top 40 round, as in Hollywood Round 3, contestants are allowed to perform an original song and/or use an instrument.  In the previous round, several contestants (at least 5 females that we know of) took the risk of performing their own self-created music, even free-styling in the case of Zoanette Johnson.  It apparently paid off for most of them, especially Angela Miller whose moment at the piano received the only standing ovation by all 4 judges for a solo performance during the Hollywood Rounds.  Jett Hermano also advanced upon highlighting herself as a lyricist.  This next round is an opportunity for contestants to not only showcase their abilities as songwriters once more, but also make history as it will have been the first time such performance has been done in a setting with an audience of fans as if it were live.

Tristen Langley, the now 15-year-old son of Nikki McKibbin (the 3rd place finisher of American Idol's inaugural season), auditioned for the upcoming season.  It is currently unknown as to whether or not he progressed beyond the initial round, commonly known as the "cattle calls".  If you've been a fan since 2002 like I have, you may remember the touching moment when Tristen, who was just 4 at the time, brought roses to his mother Nikki after her performance of Naked Eyes' "(There's) Always Something There To Remind Me".  Watch below and then tell us if you're feeling old.

Here's Tristen recently covering "God Gave Me You" by Blake Shelton...

AI11 # Of Finalists & Week 1 Themes-By-Gender

For the first week of the finals, there will be separate themes by gender.   It doesn't make sense to do that unless one of each gender will be eliminated.  Thus, there's possibly going to be 4 wild card finalists for a Top 14 with an even gender ratio (7-7).  The themes for the males and females will be Stevie Wonder and Whitney Houston, respectively.

AI11's Top-Secret, Last-Minute Semi-Finalist(s)

Jermaine Jones is probably the 13th male semi-finalist (not 100% confirmed but quite certain).  There's possibly a 13th female semi-finalist too.  If so, it's likely Schyler Dixon (Colton's sister).

AI11 Semi-Finals Theme

The theme for top 24 week is producers' choice.  Each contestant created their own song list from which the producers chose, but ultimately songs were decided by producers.

AI11 Sing-For-Your-Life & Green Mile - Update

Yesterday and today, the top 42 contestants performed/are performing at Cirque du Soleil's Le Rêve Theater at the Wynn Las Vegas (pictured below).  Green Mile is being filmed tomorrow.

AI11 Sing-For-Your-Life & Green Mile

Tomorrow, the top 42 contestants will be arriving in California for the next round, which should last about a week in total.  However, there are a couple unexpected twists.  The first is that they will be returning to Las Vegas for Sing-For-Your-Life and performing at a venue where they just may get wet.  The second is that, unlike last season, they will not be making another trip next month for the Green Mile filming (as had been assumed).

AI11 Las Vegas Round Correction

The theme for the Las Vegas round was changed from Michael Jackson songs to 1950's music.  We suspect the producers changed their plans because we spoiled them.

AI11 Hollywood Week & Las Vegas Round

With less than 2 weeks to go, the countdown to Hollywood Week is on!  Contestants will arrive on Sunday, December 11th.  As usual, it will take place at The Pasadena Civic Auditorium.  Then, much like last season, those who remain will be transported to Las Vegas for a Cirque du Soleil challenge.  This season, however, contestants will perform Michael Jackson songs, using The Immortal World Tour production (previewed below), at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.  They will finally return home on Thursday, December 22nd, just in time for the holidays.
